Small tutorial on how to add an application to WPI!

Here are the basic steps to configure WPI for CCleaner

This assumes you have all of the WPI files in a WPI folder at the root of your CD\DVD\USB Drive.

Remember this is just the most basic and required entries for a program!

  1. Download the installer and place it in the WPI\Install Folder. (CCleaner.exe in this example)
  2. Run WPI.exe and click on the Config Button\Icon.
  3. Go to the very top left area in the Config section and click on the button that says "Add".
  4. Enter in the name section "CCleaner". Then press the TAB button to activate the rest of the wizard.
  5. All apps are selected to be installed by default right from the start so if you don't want it selected by default you must uncheck this box.
  6. Choose a category for your app to be displayed in. If you want the app to be displayed in a category you don't see simply choose "other" and a box will appear that will allow the entry of you choice.
  7. In the commands tab click on "Add" at the controls area just right of the command line pane and then the little folder icon and browse to your folder that contains the installer, preferably the .\WPI\Install folder, then select the "CCleaner" installer, this will place the appropriate path in the command line.
  8. Add the necessary switch(es) for the program to run silently. For "CCleaner" the switch is /S so you would have your command line look like this:

    "%wpipath%\Install\CCleaner.exe" /S

(This can be easily done for most standard installers simply by clicking on the USSF button on the far right of the command line) For other switches for installers that USSF cannot identify you can try searching the forum section here = MSFN Application Installs section.
  9. Select the Save then the Exit buttons and you have now configured your first app!

Known Bugs\Issues!

You cannot minimize the installer window.

You cannot "click 'n drag" to highlight items. Enabling this exposes a bug that can cause instabilities.

The rewind button DOES NOT work on the media player... (Probably never has)

Nero 7 somehow messes with the IE scripting engine and WPI will not work if Nero 7 has been installed or is currently installed.

HOWEVER, This link to the Nero Clean tool --> HERE has been reported to fix this issue. So if you wish to use WPI and have had Nero7 installed you will want to "Clean" your system first.

Windows 2000 is no longer supported out of the box. You HAVE to install IE6 before WPI will run.

Basic Things to remember with WPI:

Some apps require extremely odd switches to install silently and register please go here --> MSFN's Applications forum section as most of the switches for these apps can be found there.

Please search the forum when you are having difficulties.

Forced install DOES mean forced it WILL install the app when WPI exits!

There is no longer a "lite" version of WPI but if you are really worried about size it can be GREATLY slimmed down by hand you can slim it from 3 1/2 megs down to @ 600 kb.

We are very open to suggestions and mods of WPI. Without these WPI would not be that app it is today.
